Interviews:

Damon Allison     July 18th, 2002
"With .NET in particular, the entry level books are everywhere. As .NET matures and the skill level of the average .NETter improves, book topics will begin to get deeper and more focused. Plan for this in your outline and make sure you evaluate the marketplace on your topic and find ways to add value." Read more...
Kevin Burton     June 6th, 2002
"Find a topic that really captures your interest. If you write a reasonable treatise on that topic then you will uncover more detail about that topic than most people will want to know so make sure that you are interested or it will show in your writing." Read more...
Adam Sills     May 30th, 2002
"If you're unsure of how to get your articles published once you've written them, just start sending emails to existing magazine and/or website editors and express your interest in putting your article in their publication. Do this a number of times and you'll start to have a little portfolio to show to editors who ask to see examples of your work." Read more...
David Sussman     May 24th, 2002
"To get into books, I'd recommend reviewing first. This makes you aware of the processes involved in writing a book, and what sort of things you can expect when you start writing. Taking on individual, or a few, chapters with another author is also a good way, becuase you have less load and worry. If you have a full time job, writing can be very demanding - don't overcommit, and be realistic about what you can achieve. It's better to start small and work up, than start big and fail." Ollie Cornes:     May 16th, 2002
"Some people are addicted to cigarettes or chocolate, I'm addicted to learning. Writing is something that has been around in my life for me for a while, but not in the form of a book. I learned a great deal from the writing I have done and I am still learning from it. I learn a great deal about the technology, but much more about how to communicate it clearly." Read more...

Alex Homer:     May 9th, 2002
"It's great fun, but extremely time-consuming and can be laborious at times. Before you commit to writing a whole book, try working on a few individual chapters. The cycle of write/review/comment/rewrite/review/proofing can be disheartening at first, but it's all worth it when you see the finished book. Try and find a topic that isn't already covered by lots of other books, or treat it in a way that's different. Above all, remember that the whole idea is to produce something that is useful to other developers, and not just something that shows how clever you are." Read more...

G.Andrew Duthie:     May 2nd, 2002
"Whether or not you think you're good, just start writing. You don't necessarily have to start out by selling your work. The AspAlliance is a great place to start, and there are lots of authors (both professionals and those who do it for fun) in the Alliance who are willing to help you improve your writing." Joe Mayo:     April 25th, 2002
"Go for it. Don't sit back and wait or worry about what people will think. The more you write the more experience you will have. Embrace criticism in all forms. Those who provide it are not always right, and you may not always like the delivery. However, it is valuable and can only make you better." Read more...

Jesse Liberty     April 18th, 2002
"I'm not a writer who codes, I'm a programmer who writes. I try to spend at least 75% of my time on contract-coding, 25% of my time writing (though it has been higher than that this year). I also provide on-site training and mentoring." Read more...
